THE ART OF HOLLY ALP  www.hollyalp.co.uk
Holly   started   her   career   as   an   illustrator   working   mainly   in   watercolour   to   create   a   uniquely   detailed   yet   free flowing   style.   Holly’s   illustrations   were   first   published   in   2000   which   led   to   a   successful   partnership   with   a publisher.   She   has   to   date   illustrated   several   books   including   a   full   32-page   children’s   picture   book   which   was printed in seven different languages. Moving   away   from   illustration   into   fine   art   Holly   further   developed   her   free-flowing   style   to   incorporate   other artistic   aesthetics.   Whilst   the   natural   world   is   the   main   inspiration   for   her   work   she   has   combined   this   with   her love   of   Asian   art   and   the   Art   Nouveau   movement.   Her   passion   for   Asian   art   stems   from   her   childhood   home   which was   filled   with   beautiful   hand   carved   wooden   oriental   furniture   and   a   koi   carp   pond   as   well   as   many   beautiful antiques and collectables. Having   also   travelled   and   lived   in   many   countries   including   Spain,   Australia,   New   Zealand   and   France,   Holly   has used all of these experiences and sights as influences in her work.
All   of   these   inspirations   continue   to   be   evident   in   her   work   and   when   combined   with   her   gilding   technique   have   developed   into   a distinctive   style   of   her   own.   Her   work   is   often   big   and   bold;   The   multiple   layers   of   paint,   varnishes   and   glazes   are   layered   over   metal   leaf to create multi-dimensional pieces with an amazing lustre and depth.
